    Production process

    Raw material preparation
    First, make sure that there are raw materials that meet the composition requirements of 16Mn steel. 16Mn steel is a low-alloy high-strength structural steel. Its chemical composition mainly includes carbon (C), manganese (Mn), silicon (Si), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S) and other elements. The specific contents are as follows:
    The carbon content is generally between 0.12% and 0.20%.
    The manganese content is relatively high, usually in the range of 1.00% to 1.60%.
    The silicon content is about 0.20% to 0.55%.
    Phosphorus and sulfur are impurity elements, and their contents are strictly controlled at a low level. Generally, the phosphorus content does not exceed 0.045%, and the sulfur content does not exceed 0.045%.
    Usually, billets or ingots are used as the starting materials for the production of seamless steel pipes. These raw materials must be strictly inspected to ensure that their chemical composition, impurity content, etc. meet the standards, laying a good foundation for subsequent production.
    Heating process
    The prepared billets or ingots are sent to the heating furnace for heating. The purpose of heating is to make the steel reach the appropriate rolling temperature for subsequent processing and deformation. Generally speaking, the heating temperature will be set in a suitable range according to the specific characteristics of the steel and the production process requirements, usually around 1000℃ - 1200℃.
    During the heating process, the heating speed, heating time and uniformity of the heating temperature must be strictly controlled to ensure that the steel is heated evenly and avoid local overheating or overcooling, otherwise it may cause uneven performance or defects in the steel.
    Rolling process
    This is the core link in the production of 16Mn seamless steel pipes. There are mainly two methods: hot rolling and cold rolling, as follows:
    Hot rolling
    Perforation rolling: First, the heated billet is perforated by a perforator to form a hollow state inside to form a rough tube. During the perforation process, the perforation speed, head pressure and other parameters must be controlled to ensure the quality of the rough tube, such as the inner diameter size accuracy and wall thickness uniformity of the rough tube.
    Extension rolling: The perforated rough pipe is then sent to the extension rolling mill for extension rolling, which further reduces the outer diameter of the rough pipe and increases its length, so that it gradually approaches the size specifications of the final finished steel pipe. In the process of extension rolling, it is also necessary to accurately control various rolling parameters, such as rolling speed, roller pressure, etc., to ensure the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the steel pipe.
    Cold rolling
    Cold rolling is a process for further processing of hot-rolled steel pipes at room temperature. It is usually based on the hot-rolled steel pipe, and the steel pipe is rolled again by a cold rolling mill using rollers to further improve the dimensional accuracy, surface finish and mechanical properties of the steel pipe. The cold rolling process requires strict control of parameters such as the number of cold rolling passes and the amount of reduction per pass, because excessive cold rolling may cause defects such as cracks in the steel pipe.
    Sizing and straightening
    After rolling, the size of the steel pipe may still have a certain deviation, and sizing and straightening treatment are required.
    Sizing
    The outer diameter of the steel pipe is accurately adjusted by the sizing machine to meet the specified outer diameter size standard. During the sizing process, the parameters such as the roller gap of the sizing machine should be controlled to ensure the accuracy of the outer diameter of the steel pipe, and the general accuracy can reach about ±0.1% - ±0.3%.
    Straightening
    Straightening is to eliminate the bending deformation of the steel pipe during rolling, transportation, etc. The steel pipe is straightened by the straightening machine to keep the steel pipe straight in the length direction. During the straightening process, the parameters of the straightening machine, such as the straightening pressure, should be reasonably adjusted according to the bending degree of the steel pipe to ensure that the straightening effect is good and the straightness of the steel pipe meets the requirements.
    Pipe cutting and inspection
    After sizing and straightening, the steel pipe basically has the shape of a finished product, but the following operations are required:
    Pipe cutting
    According to the customer's requirements or the standard specifications of the product, the steel pipe is cut by the pipe cutting machine to reach the predetermined length. When cutting the pipe, pay attention to the cutting accuracy to ensure that the length of the steel pipe after cutting meets the requirements, and the error is generally controlled within ±5mm.
    Inspection
    The 16Mn seamless steel pipe produced should be fully inspected to ensure that its quality meets the standards. The inspection contents mainly include:
    Chemical composition inspection: confirm again whether the chemical composition of the steel pipe meets the standard requirements of 16Mn steel, and detect the content of carbon, manganese, silicon, sulfur, phosphorus and other elements through spectral analysis and other methods.
    Dimensional accuracy inspection: check whether the outer diameter, inner diameter, wall thickness, length and other dimensions of the steel pipe meet the specified standards, and use calipers, micrometers, length gauges and other tools for measurement.
    Mechanical property inspection: test the mechanical performance indicators such as strength, toughness and hardness of the steel pipe, obtain relevant data through tensile tests, impact tests, hardness tests and other methods, and compare with the standards.
    Surface quality inspection: check whether there are defects such as cracks, scratches, oxide scales on the surface of the steel pipe, and detect them through naked eye observation, flaw detectors and other equipment.
    Only 16Mn seamless steel pipes that have passed the inspection can be sold on the market as finished products or applied to related projects.
